Helen McCarthy

A pioneer of the second-wave women's movement once said that a woman is either a feminist or she's a masochist. I think there are too many women out there in Britain today who still enjoy the pain. The pay gap, unequal division of labour in the home, lack of affordable childcare, the feminisation of poverty, the continuing incident of rape and domestic violence, a popular culture that sexualises women's bodies and a political culture in which their voices are still too often drowned out - thinkingwomen has a lot of work to do. 

I'm currently a researcher at Demos, with research interests covering gender and equalities, community development, social inclusion and public services reform. Before that I was a student at Cambridge and Harvard.
