as a Labour MP for West Bromwich in 1973, she has had an extraordinarily
colourful and varied political career, culminating in spending eight
years as Speaker in the House of Commons from 1992-2000.

neuro semantics and will run an interactive session on how to apply
their principles to enhance an individual's potential.

Lis Astall, Accenture UK Managing Director.
Lis has been with Accenture for 21 years and as the UK Managing
Director has covered all the company's public and private sector
business. In the UK Accenture employs 11,700 people and annual revenues
for FY05 were $2.56bn. During the seminar Lis will talk about the
successes and challenges she has faced throughout her career and
what it takes to manage a complex and constantly changing business.

topics for future thinkingwomen in Manchester gatherings.

Women in Local Government. Councillor Kath Robinson, Deputy
Leader at Manchester City Council shares her experience of 20 years
as councillor and part of local government.

Inside the Equal Opportunities Commission. Amanda
Ariss, Head of Policy at the EOC talks about challenges in merging
issues of discrimination, future challenges and the current focus
points on gender.

New forms of democracy. Hilary Wainwright, author
of Reclaim the state: Experiments in popular democracy and
editor of Red
Pepper talks about practices in different parts of the world
that have made democracy more sexy. She will also discuss whether
different democratic models can be usefully identified as 'feminine'
and 'masculine'

Voter apathy: why bother with regional government in the
North West? In conversation with Ruth Turner, an award-winning
social entrepreneur, with interests that span sustainable development,
innovation in science and the arts, health and social issues, social
businesses, and renewing interest in democracy. Ruth is a founding
director of social research and public involvement company Vision
21 and a director of Sustainability North West. Biog

Purpose will be talking about What makes a good leader, particularly
from a female perspective

Brigit Egan, career and change management consultant will
talk about How to network without 'networking'. Do you find
networking events annoying? You don't want to be fake but
want to talk to people about your work and to progress in your career.
Brigit will discuss how to network naturally, in a way that you
are comfortable with and that doesn't come across as a hard sell.
